My patients like the form-fitting nature of the Equmen shirts and the back/core support they offer, reminding them from a kinesthetic perspective to avoid slouching. Since posture is very cerebral in nature and requires physical corrections, the garment has the potential to be a great motor learning tool for patients, athletes and the general population alike. The technology is very unique, supporting the areas of the body that typically break down from a posture dimension and through repetitive overuse. When worn, the shirt's helix mapping permits somatic feedback directly to promote spinal and soft tissue alignment through virtually subliminal posture corrections.

As a man, would you be seen in a mirdle?

A Mirdle (or Male Girdle) is exactly what it says. It is a girdle produced just for men who are looking to trim a few inches off their waistline. Everyone is a little vain, but at what point does your vanity make you want to wear a re-designed woman’ s girdle? We all want to look good but that doesn’ t mean that you should take it to extremes such as this!

Mirdle’ s are about the most unflattering item of underclothing that a man can wear, not to mention the shame of ever being seen with it on!

The internet is littered with pictures of men wearing Mirdle’ s. Search for that phrase and you will quickly understand! These are the sorts of pictures that do the rounds on e-mail that make everyone cringe or laugh, but ultimately, look away. People huddle around your desk trying to get a glimpse of someone who looks as though he is wrapped in bandages with unsightly bulges popping out here and there.

There is no time in his life that any man should ever put him through the shame of purchasing one of these items, God forbid he is ever actually seen with it! Can you imagine the first time your girlfriend ever saw you with one on? Any hope of passion would quickly fly straight out of the window, never to return. Sights like this burn themselves into the retina and cause mental scarring! Don’ t ever put yourselves though it. However, if you have already succumbed, all is not lost. There are still many uses for a Mirdle including waxing your car, shining your shoes or to help start the BBQ.

So what do you do if you want to look good, help your posture and, as a by-product, lose a little off the waist as well? What you will want are items of clothing that you would be happy being seen in, no matter where you are or what your circumstances.

Equmen do not manufacture Mirdles let us assure you of this. Equmen manufacture precision compression clothing that is designed to aid your posture as you go about your busy lives. This is physiotherapy for your body – a work out as you walk, train or are sitting down helping you maintain the posture that your body requires. Clothing designed for men, by men who understand that looking and feeling good needn’ t mean taking drastic measures!

One of the additional benefits of this compression technology is you are also able to trim a little off the mid section – but this is a t-shirt! It looks great you would be proud to be seen with this item of clothing on without anything over the top!

Would you do that in a Mirdle?

No, nor would we.

Equmen Precision Compression Socks for the business traveller

Deep Venous Thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot works its way into the heart or lungs, often leading to sudden death. Otherwise known as DVT or Economy Class Syndrome it is frequently caused by long periods spent in cramped conditions. Tightly packed seating – such as that found in the economy class section of airliners – can restrict movement and trigger the clot illness. On a long flight, lack of circulation and reduced air pressure means that blood can suddenly change from a liquid to a solid state and produce a clot. Economy Class Syndrome, unlike the name suggests is equally prevalent in business class and first class passengers.

There is widespread debate over what actually happens to cause the blood clots and the number of people that are actually affected. However, a new compression sock recently unveiled in the market has proved to assist in the prevention of Economy Class Syndrome. Equmen Pty Ltd is an Australian owned company, manufacturing business traveler compression socks using technology developed from research over the past four years.

Equmen Precision Compression Socks were designed initially for the long haul business traveler to assist in reducing symptoms of jetlag, limb swelling and to help prevent blood clotting during long distance travel.

The Equmen Precision Compression Sock is a lower-leg molded garment with 90% Nylon and 10% Spandex content and contoured to fit for optimum compression when the wearer is seated. It is designed for otherwise healthy travellers.

The garment works by making up for the difference in pressure upon the body at altitude. It is directed to jet lag (suffered by 90% of all passengers) and reducing the risk of DVT (allegedly 10% in the high risk groups) of all passengers. This amazing unisex sock caters for all travellers and available in one size fits all.

Equmen Precision Compression Socks are positioned as necessary travel clothing - ‘ the only true business sock of its kind to overcome jet lag and reduce dvt’ and is messaged as ‘ the best kept secret for the business traveller.

They are targeted at all passengers, but with a specific push to business and first class passengers. Already 12% of an aircraft is dedicated to business and first class and that is the target market group. There is a strong need to educate the consumer concerning the total benefits of the product as opposed to limitations by competitors from the medical field.

Alister McColl, CEO of Equmen, says, “ We do know wearing compressive socks reduces the risk of DVT substantially, and is a way for the traveller to take appropriate action for their own health and safety. It does not matter who is responsible, people just want to know how to reduce the risk” .

McColl also points out that “ on long haul flights people have to get some sleep, and sometimes because of turbulence or other factors, you cannot always get up to do the required exercise. Wearing compression socks overcomes this problem” . By reducing swelling, keeping blood flowing and assisting hydration, Equmen Precision Compression Socks assist in reducing many of the symptoms of jetlag and allow the body to refresh more quickly.

Equmen Precision Compression Socks have also been selected by many internationally competitive athletes as a measure to prevent DVT and to reduce the effects of jetlag and reported an increased recovery time from jetlag and an ability to continue training prior to competition.

While Alister McColl acknowledges the responsibility of airlines in raising passenger awareness, he states “ there is also an issue of consumer preparedness. If you are aware of a problem you can take measures to avoid or reduce the risk” . Lack of circulation which causes DVT, is aggravated by inactivity, dehydration and sleeping in a sitting position. Passengers should drink plenty of water and avoid tea, coffee and alcohol. Wearing compressive socks like Equmen, will help people who depart healthy, to arrive healthy” .

Comments:  Hi,

I  know  that  I  made  a  few  comments  to  you  when  researching  if  your  product  was  available  in  the  republic  of  Ireland  sometime  last  year.

Having  purchased  a  few  singlets  and  underwear  last  year  in  Selfridges  and  London  I  am  pleased  to  find  that  they  are  now  available  in  Ireland.    -  More  purchases  have  been  made!

I  said  in  an  email  to  you  -  two  words  -  Life  changing!

  Let  me  explain  why.

I  have  suffered  with  scoliosis  for  all  of  my  adult  life   an  x-ray  report  showed  that  I  had  extensive  irregularities  of  the  lower  dorsal  spine  -  consistent  with  osteochondritis  in  the  past  -  likely  in  my  teens.      Since  then  I  have  a  very  poor  posture  and  have  spent  thousands  of  pounds  on  alternative  treatments,  Alexander  technique,  Bowen,  physiotherapy,  numerous  types  of  massage  which  all  seem  effective  for  a  short  period,  but  it  was  not  long  before  I  was  back  to  square  one!

I  discovered  your  products  and  as  I  say  -  Life  changing  -  Ever  since  July  2009  I  wear  them  every  day!    I  stand  taller,  I  feel  more  confident,    I  don't  slouch  as  much,  I'm  no  longer  suffer  from  the  muscular  pain  that  I  used  too.    I  used  to  have  to  stop,  curl  up  and  sleep  -  it  was  the  only  cure.    Now  I  can  go  on  all  day  and  even  party  more  at  night!

I  often  used  to  become  upset,  down  and  depressed  about  my  posture  and  spine  -  those  thoughts  have  almost  disappeared

My  friends  and  family  have  even  commented  that  my  back  looks  straighter  -  I  look  forward  to  the  morning  squeeze  into  my  singlet  and  know  that  I  will  have  a  comfortable  day  ahead  -  (well  they  are  so  comfy  and  snug  too!  In  fact  comfortably  re-assuring  -  like  a  safety  blanket  to  a  child  perhaps!)

It  really  is  a  great  product  that  I  have  recommended  to  friends  also   they  too  have  felt  the  benefit  of  your  garments.

Long  live  equmen  and  the  health  benefits  which  it  must  have  brought  to  so  many,  it  really  has  changed  my  life  for  the  better,  I  hope  that  your  products  equally  change  many  more.

  Thank  you  so  much!

  Regards

  Ian  D

Your Dad at his Best this Fathers Day

Give  Dad  his  best  gift  this  Fathers  Day!

… the  chance  to  look  and  feel  his  best.

Father's  Day  is  the  one  day  of  the  year  we  celebrate  the  best  men  in  our  lives!

Officially  recognized  in  1924,  Father’ s  day  was  created  to  complement  Mothers  Day  after  many  years  of  relentless  work  by  Sonora  Dodd.  She  felt  fatherhood  should  also  be  honored  after  being  raised  with  5  siblings,  single  handedly  by  her  father,  after  her  mother’ s  death.  In  1972  Fathers  day  was  established  by  Richard  Nixon  as  a  permanent  national  observance  to  be  held  on  the  third  Sunday  of  June  and  is  now  celebrated  on  this  date  in  55  countries  across  the  world.

Father's  Day  is  a  day  honoring  fathers  and  celebrating  fatherhood,  paternal  bonds,  and  the  influence  of  fathers  and  forefathers  in  society.

Father's  Day  allows  us  to  acknowledge  Dad’ s  contributions  to  society  and  to  our  families.

It  also  provides  us  the  opportunity  to  express  our  love  and  respect  for  dad,  to  show  dad  our  appreciation  for  his  selfless  care  and  protection  and  to  say  thanks  for  his  unconditional  love  and  affection.

Dads  are  our  heroes,  our  spiritual  guides,  our  emotional  pillars,  important  for  our  physical,  financial  and  social  well  being.  For  daughters,  he  is  the  ideal  man  and  also  the  first  man  we  adore,  while  for  sons,  dad  is  an  idol  and  the  strongest  man  we  aspire  to  emulate.    He  is  the  best  and  he  deserves  the  best.

So  what  are  you  going  to  give  your  Dad  this  Father’ s  Day?

Forget  boring  ties  or  gadgets  he’ ll  never  use.  Giving  dad  his  best  gift  to  look  and  feel  his  best  is  a  great  opportunity  to  show  him  how  much  you  love  and  care,  about  improving  his  wellbeing,  his  posture,  his  back  and  muscle  support,  his  circulation  and  his  confidence  by  giving  him  a  slimmer  physique.

The  Equmen  range  use  a  combination  of  compression  technology  and  next  generation  fabrics  that  follows  the  contours  of  the  body,  augmenting  what  should  stand  out  and  diminishing  what  shouldn’ t.  Posture  is  improved,  the  back  is  supported  and  circulation  is  increased.  The  lightweight  temperature-control  fabric  optimizes  comfort  in  any  condition.

Utilising  the  health  insights  of  physiotherapists  alongside  the  technical  expertise  of  athletic  garment  engineers  this  is  the  secret  that  professional  sportsmen  enjoy  on  the  field  every  day  -  we’ ve  taken  it  off  the  field  and  finessed  it  for  everyday  wear.

Dad  can  wear  it  under  his  starched  white  office  shirt,  golf  polo,  or  on  its  own.  The  support,  structure  and  shape  initiative  offers  him  something  comfortable,  stylish  and  wholly  beneficial.

The  perfect  gift  for  Dad  this  Father’ s  Day!

Another Heart Felt review

Here  at  Equmen  we  often  get  reviews  on  how  good  our  products  are,  however  occasionally  we  receive  ones  that  really  stand  out.  We  are  proud  of  the  difference  we  make,  enabling  men  to  be  at  their  best.
Have  a  read  below  of  the  lovely  review  we  have  just  received.  We  are  also  in  the  process  of  developing  a  new  website  with  a  review  function,  launching  soon!

Subject:  RE:  Equmen  -  order  i11952

Hello  Christian,

I  received  my  order  the  other  day,  and  without  any  explanation  handed  the  v-neck  undershirt  to  my  husband.    After  wrestling  into  it  (he  hates  anything  close-fitting)  and  moaning  about  how  tight  it  was,  his  face  suddenly  change  to  amazement!    He  said  he  couldn't  believe  how  great  he  felt,  his  sciatic  pain  stopped  IMMEDIATELY,  said  he  felt  he  could  fill  his  lungs  with  more  air  and  swears  he's  2  inches  (5cm)  taller.

After  a  few  hours  he  took  the  shirt  off  because  he  said  it  was  making  him  feel  exhausted  having  his  back  made  so  straight,  but  next  morning  it  was  back  on  again  making  him  feel  like  Terminator  LOL.

He  then  wore  it  work  (he's  a  truck  driver),  which  is  really  the  reason  I  bought  the  shirt  for  him,  and  he  said  it's  the  first  time  in  years  he's  come  home  from  work  without  his  back  aching  and  feeling  drained  (probably  from  not  breathing  deeply  enough).

Although  the  cost  of  the  shirt  made  his  eyes  pop,  he  made  no  objection  to  me  ordering  a  couple  more  for  him.

This  weekend  hubby  will  be  'testing'  his  shirt  doing  some  heavy  duty  fishing,  then  out  on  the  golf  course  the  following  weekend.    I  swear  he's  more  excited  about  the  shirt  than  the  fishing  or  golf  LOL.

Sincerely,

Keitha  S##

(Aussie  in  the  U.S.)

P.S.  I  wasn't  able  to  find  anywhere  on  your  website  to  add  a  review.

Equmen featured in Reuters article

(Reuters) - Businessmen who vowed to hit the gym daily in 2010 but are yet to leave the desk are the target of a new, fast-growing line of high-tech underwear which boasts to trim the torso while also benefiting your health.

Just ask Gavin Jones, co-founder of Australia-based company Equmen which has pioneered "fitwear" for men who spend the week hunched over desks in high-stress jobs and weekends chasing their children.

Jones said compression wear was well researched and accepted among elite athletes as was shapewear for women that trims and smoothes those stubborn bulges, but when he stood in front of the mirror he had one question -- what about me?

"I was just beginning to show the signs of wear and tear. I had a pretty active 20s and 30s and maintained a great social life and played sport but I was just starting to turn the corner into middle age," Jones, 43, a former journalist, told Reuters.

While women have quickly snapped into the increasing lines of shapewear, trebling sales in the past decade according to the market research NPD Group, Jones realized men wanted more than a male girdle or "mirdle" to trim the beer gut if they were to upgrade from their boxers or cotton briefs with fancy waistband.

In partnership with an American friend and former investment banker Corie Chung, Jones spent about a year and about $1.4 million of his own money researching and developing a new product line that was more mainstream than the compression wear around and came with health benefits.

They found a manufacturer in Israel who could produce a high-elasticity blend of fabrics which was seamless and flexible.

This led to Equmen's range of undershirts and underpants hitting the market a year ago, boasting to help back support, better posture, and improved blood circulation as well as a better shape -- and maybe even a lower golf score.

The line is sold in Australia, Britain, the United States, Canada, Spain, South Africa, and Taiwan with plans to move this year into Scandinavia, South Korea, Japan and New Zealand. The company is introducing socks to its collection.

"Sales have outstripped our expectations and we are in very good shape," said Jones, forecasting sales for 2010/11 rising to about $12 million and turnover of 200,000 units from about $7 million and 95,000 units in 2009/10.

Chung, 30, said they were even working on a range of women's fit wear, Equfem, which they hoped to hit the market early 2012.

Other companies are now also starting to produce fashionable, shapewear for men such as Calvin Klein's X line and Marks & Spencer's Bodymax range but Chung said men will remain Equmen's key focus, with professional men the main target.

"Our primary consumer is between 30 and 55. It is the slightly middle to older demographic because those health benefits become more powerful the older you get," said Chung, whose experience also includes working as a product and marketing manager at Revlon and L'Oreal.

"We are focusing mainly on metropolitan and urban areas where people are under the most pressure and stress."

Looking Your Best - Men's Style Tips

If you want to lookyour best - start from the inside out - beginning with your underwear. Compression garments such as ours will streamline your look, while giving you posture support. This means that no matter how you layer your look you'll be standing taller and looking trimmer. Then whatever you wear will look better - but that doesn't mean that there aren't some commong fashion rules you should follow if you want to make sure you look as good dressed as you do undressed.

To make the most of your look, remember to, where possible, buy tailored outfits with good quality fabric to compliment your body shape. Whether you're wearing a t-shirt or a suit, poor quality fabric can lose its shape quickly and detract from your overall appearance. A tailored outfit will enhance all that hard work you've done at the gym, or if needs be, will also help disguise the work you failed to do.

Remember, not all clothes are created equal and while a garment may be in fashion and look great on that eighteen year old male model, it doesn't necessarily mean it is going to suit your body shape or even your own personal style.

So how do you choose the right clothes for you?

Stay tuned to this blog next week as we give our top ten tips for creating your own personal look.

Equmen Underwear Takes on Our Jewels

Earlier this summer, I had the unique opportunity to test out something called the Wondershirt, courtesy of an Australian men's clothing manufacturer called Equmen, which is attempting to capitalize on the emerging middle market between crotch-grabbing everymen and metrosexualized alpha-males.

In a nutshell, the Wondershirt is a form-fitting, largely polyester undergarment that made me feel like I was vacuum sealed inside a package of string cheese -- which is to say, sexy like a kitten. So the next logical stop was to investigate how Equmen's expanded line of total-body undies could approximate the sensation of fastening my nuts in a shell ... of soft, stretchy, temperature-controlled fabric.

The "Power Pouch"
For the past several days, I have been testing out a few pairs of the company's Precision Underwear, which have allegedly been designed by made-up doctors known as physiotherapists, and feature a sci-fi advent called Helix-Mapping compression that "places pressure on the gluteal fold, providing lightweight posture and gait support." Translation: It conforms to your ass like wet cement. Or as my girlfriend Colleen put it between insensitive snickers -- "It's basically a sports bra for your junk."

And speaking of the ol' petrified stick and poisonberries, it was comforting to know that my private dancers were well-protected within a "power pouch," which apparently is climate-moderated to keep me "healthy and comfortable." Or in other words, ensure that, unlike with traditional boxers or briefs, my undercarriage doesn't accumulate the moisture levels of a sub-equatorial South American jungle. Ideally, the Precision Underwear (or PU, as I like to hilariously pronounce it to myself) is intended for a shapely, athletically inclined individual, not a pasty Hebraic pansy like myself who could easily be mistaken for an underdeveloped teenage girl from the bosom down.

A Crowdpleaser, Too
But against all odds -- and despite my unmentionables being less than evenly aligned -- my unveiling of the long blue trunks (while sashaying across the living room to optimal montage music, of course) elicited awe-struck approval from Colleen, who likened the Superman-azure trunks to erotically charged bicycle shorts. Like adjusting to an oral retainer, the clinging nylons and polyesters were initially alien and less-than-welcome against my bottom (and far from better) half. Eventually though, the pragmatically sensual boxers became a second skin, like a condom for my inner thighs. And during an afternoon gallop on the treadmill, they were particularly well-suited to enhancing my posture and keeping all my unseemly business in an organized state. It was as if someone hired a carefully crafted underwear nanny to monitor the behavior of my unruly set of testicular twins.

Skip the Skimp
Unfortunately, I had less success feeling empowered by, or at ease inside, the skimpier grey briefs, which are more aptly described as a cup-less jockstrap. Even Colleen felt humiliated on my behalf, like the high school bully had just undressed me in the middle of the hallway and revealed my privately homoerotic choice of underwear. At least it would be nearly impossible to maneuver a successful wedgie thanks to the resistance of the PU's material.

My suggestion to all you Fruit of the Loom loyalists and Joe Boxer enthusiasts? It actually could be worth your while to experiment with a pair of Equmen's lengthier boxers, if nothing else as a reward to your suffering girlfriend who's endlessly satisfied your demands for ill-fitting, Frederick's of Hollywood buttless panties. But at the end of the day, you'll probably still feel truer to yourself in a skid-marked pair of tighty-whiteys that could be mistaken for a greasy-spoon diner dishrag. PU indeed.

Undershirt Review: Equmen Core Precision Undershirt

I'm sitting here in my aisle seat aboard one of the newest airlines fully equipped with a media entertainment center offering on demand music, movies, satellite tv, music videos, games, and seat-to-seat chat. Instead of kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying a quite comfortable flight back to Tug Central, I've powered up my notebook, plugged it into the conveniently located on board power supply, jumped onto the in-flight wifi network, and am settling in to write what I believe will be one of the most anticipated undershirt reviews that I've written to date.

If you're reading this post, you are now among the tens of thousands of people who have visited my site over the last couple of months looking for information about what has got to be the most visible launch of a new undershirt company in the last decade, if not longer. I'm really not sure if all the press and attention for this new line of slimming undershirts is a result of a brilliantly executed marketing plan from Equmen's veteran Marketing team or just plain dumb luck. But one thing's for sure - there are a lot of people who are interested in finding out more about this cool new and yes, controversial men's undershirt.

It all started back in late November when I read an article entitled The new Spanx for men?, written by London-based Times Online journalist John Waters, who shared his experience wearing the not-yet-released "core precision undershirt" for a day. It didn't take long for the flood gates of the blogsphere to open up and since that day, there have been literally hundreds of articles written about this new company and their men's shapewear products. Surprisingly, except for press releases and the CEO interviews, many of these articles somewhat mock this new product in a sense. I guess it really doesn't matter what they are saying, because people are definitely talking and Equmen is getting some awesome press and mind share because of it.

The product has jokingly been referred to as a man girdle, mirdle, Spanx for men, and control underwear. The general feeling is that most guys would not likely warm up to wearing a skin tight, slimming undershirt for fear of embarrassment and that most women wouldn't want to see their men in one. If you ask me, I think the folks writing those articles are being completely narrow minded, short sighted, and simply just don't get it.

While I might be generalizing here, it seems to be very common for people to dismiss and talk negatively about something they simply don't understand. And even more so if that something isn't considered "socially acceptable" at the time. Keep this in mind - up until the early to mid 1900's, the undershirt as we know and love it today didn't really even exist. Are you honestly prepared to go on record today saying that an undershirt designed to flatten a guy's gut and hide his love handles isn't going to be a standard wardrobe item for men in 5 or 10 years? No, I didn't think so )

For those of you who have already made fun of these undershirts - guess what - I think the joke is on you because Equmen IS the next big thing in men's slimming, compression, and performance undergarments. I applaud them for taking a category of undershirt that was once only marketed to a select group of men, combining that with the benefits of some of today's leading performance gear, and taking it mainstream. Watch out UnderArmour, Nike, Skins, and Adidas - you're about to be schooled.

Today's review is primarily about Equmen's short sleeve v-neck as it's the one I wore for an entire day not too long ago while going about my normal daily activities (also known as working). I have, however, also had the opportunity to wear their tank top/singlet and long sleeve undershirts several times over the last month, so I'll add in some commentary on my experience with those as well from time to time in the post. As with all of my other reviews, I'll use the Fit, Feel, Function, and Affordability review process.

Fit - So I'm just gonna come out and say it because it's pretty darn obvious - these undershirts (made from 73% polyester cationi, 13% nylon, 14% spandex) are designed to fit you tight. Truth is they're tough to get on, and sometimes even tougher to get off. But, if I were you, I wouldn't get hung up on that because once you manage to get one of these puppies on, you'll immediately experience some of the benefits of this tight fitting, yet surprisingly comfortable slimming undershirt. For me, I felt a good amount of support in the shoulders, arms, torso, and upper abdomen area. I also noticed feeling a little bit more confident in my appearance because the compressing effects of the medium-sized undershirt helped my shirt and pants fit a little bit looser by taking off about 1/2" from my midsection (love handles/waist area). From reading other articles like this, folks have reported experiencing a reduction of up to 3" in their waistline. It would be hard for me to say that these undershirts will fit everyone as comfortably as they did me, because it will definitely depend on how someone is built. For those who are more on the overweight side, you'll likely get more slimming effects, but at the same time, you might feel a little more constricted in one of these undershirts than someone like me who has more of an average build.

Equmen undershirts are cut extra long. The bottom reaches down to around my bottom/butt and front "lower extremities" and while I'm normally a really big fan of extra long undershirts like this, the length combined with the stretchy/snug fitting fabric created a couple of effects that I'm not completely thrilled about. First, I wound up having to tuck the Equmen into my boxers because the compressing effects forced my baggy-fitting boxers to bunch up and gather - normally I wear my undershirts on the outside of my boxers. If you're a wearer of the tighty whiteys or fitted boxers, that won't likely be a problem. Second, the bottom of the undershirt rolled up several times during the day up to my waistline. Although it never came all the way untucked, I did find myself tucking the undershirt back in from time to time as it felt more comfortable that way.

Tank Top/Singlet Notes: I've been wearing my Equmen tank top during every workout lately. I really like the extra support it provides in my upper ab area and mid section. I cannot say this concretely, but it seems as though when I'm wearing the tank, it feels a little easier to do sit ups than when I'm not. One other note, it's a lot harder to get these undershirts off when they're wet! It's like peeling off a layer of skin - but after a good workout - it actually feels great. Also, while this is not something I'd recommend from a hygiene perspective, I've worn the tank during the last 9-10 workouts without washing it (hanging dry between workouts - it drys fast), and there is absolutely no sweaty or mildewy smell to it whatsoever. It actually still smells clean! Nonetheless, I will be washing it regularly moving forward.

Long Sleeve Notes: I've worn the long sleeve version the least. It's the hardest to get on, get off, and feels the most constricting of the three. Overall, the fit is pretty good, however, the part that I notice the most is in the arm socket and underarm area. There, I can feel the seams rub up against my skin and up into my armpit and when I move my arms backward, I feel a slight pinching in the back by where the seams and my arms meet. I definitely prefer the fit of the v-neck and the tank top over the long sleeve.

Feel - I covered most of the way this undershirt feels in the fit category above with one small exception. The one thing that's really interesting about the feel of this line of undershirts is that while you would likely expect to feel a little warmer when wearing a compression garment like this, you actually feel a little cooler instead. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but when I wore the v-neck for the day, my whole upper chest area felt cool throughout the day. In fact, I felt cooler than when I wear some of my cotton undershirts! Even more surprising, that also held true when I wore the the long sleeve undershirt for a couple of hours the other day. The other notable characteristic about these undershirts is that, because of the smooth polyester/nylon/spandex fabric blend, your outer shirts will lay and slide nicely over them.

Function - I typically like to compare how a company markets the features of their undershirts to what I observe when wearing it. Here's some information from Equmen's website:

Ultimate high-performance undergarment. Engineered with Equmen's precision-fit HELIX-MAPPING™ technology, the CORE PRECISION™ UNDERSHIRT builds-in physiotherapy taping techniques to structure, support and energise the body. With seamless stitching and targeted ventilation, they fit like a second skin, delivering the ultimate fusion of fashion and function. Wear underneath any shirt, from street to sport, work to weekend.

  • Improves Posture
  • Supports Core Muscles
  • Optimises Form
  • Controls Body Temperature
  • Visibly Streamlines

To be brutally honest, most of the stuff in the first paragraph above is really well written marketing copy that I really don't understand - but it sure does sound cool, doesn't it? After a little googling, I became enlightened on what physiotherapy taping techniques was. In simple terms, a physiotherapist is pretty much equivalent to a physical therapist in the U.S. and the "taping techniques" refers to ways in which those folks apply special taping and strapping materials to your arm, foot, knee or other parts of your body to aid both the treatment and prevention of injury. You ever see professional athletes getting taped up? Yep, that's it! Ah, now I get it - the crisscross ribbing (aka helix mapping) manufactured into the undershirt's design somewhat mirrors the type of support you would get from similarly applied sport taping.

As for other other things, I'll have to give some props to these folks in the function category as I personally witnessed roughly 3 out of the 5 items listed above (a little of posture & support, controlled body temperature, streamlining).

Affordability - I'll have to admit, I have never seen an undershirt manufactured with this type of precision before. It's truly remarkable to see the level of intricacy used in the design of these garments and I would love to do a follow-up article sometime showing how their Israel-based manufacturing partner puts these things together. When you figure in the cost of the materials, plus manufacturing, packaging, marketing, and retail distribution, I don't think think the $100 price tag is totally out of line.

But to be fair, it's really hard to put these undershirts in an "affordable" category. I was reading an article not too long ago with a quote from Equmen's CEO, that stated the following:

Similar technology is already popular in the performance activewear market, with brands like Under Armour, Nike and Skins offering compression underwear that helps improve athletic performance. Equmen, however, is geared toward everyday use or for special events, like weddings, when men might want a little assistance looking their best, according to the company. "Compression garments have been developed to help athletes perform at their peak. We have found that the same technologies can benefit men on an everyday basis," said Equmen chief executive officer Gavin Jones.

From my own personal experience, I would have absolutely have no hesitation to recommend having one or two of these undershirts in your waredrobe for special events as mentioned above, but I do have a hard time getting my head wrapped around the idea of throwing down around $100 a pop to buy a bunch of these for every day use. I just don't think that's very realistic at the current price point.

I will go on record saying, that I really do like wearing these undershirts while I'm working out and based on the shirt's high-tech design, I think they're a perfect fit for guys looking for an alternative to Under Armour, Nike, or Adidas compression tops.

Summary

All in all, I give the line of Equmen undershirts high marks in practically all areas. The one exception is affordability for everyday use. So, if you're looking for a cool looking, core supporting, posture improving, comfortable fitting, performance undershirt - go out and buy yourself a couple Core Precision Undershirts from Equmen!
